8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Monday – Friday.

Position will require weekend and evening work during special events.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position will focus on educational aspects of recycling (for contractors and campus), and will assist with developing implementation plans for specific projects that have been identified as campus needs (campus-wide education plan, composting program, plastic wrap collection, shredding, etc.). This position will act as designer and project manager on these projects, and will assist with planning, implementing and tracking projects to efficiently expand departmental operations.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from a four year college or university and one year of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Job Duties

1. Act as main point of contact for educating campus departments on relevant recycling policies and procedures.
2. Assist in developing campus-wide recycling education plan in order to make recycling operations more efficient.
3. Develop signage, posters, and other educational materials to improve understanding of the recycling program on campus.
4. Assist with maintaining Recycling website and social media accounts.
5. Act as the liaison between Office of Waste Reduction & Recycling, Capital Planning, and Capital Projects and Renovation contractors with regard to Construction/Demolition (C/D) recycling and waste reduction.
6. Research federal, state, and local legislation and policies related to recycling to remain informed of current trends and regulations.
7. Keep the University community updated on new rules/regulations and incorporate this information into campus-wide trainings.

Other Work Responsibilities

1. Assist with waste audits and with the Zero Waste Football program.
2. Assist with administration of campus waste contract.
3. Provide presentations to campus and off-campus groups, both on and off-site.
4. May require occasional travel to give presentations at conferences off-site.
5. Assist with development and implementation of future recycling programs.
6. Position requires both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather. Incumbent is expected to visit construction sites, assist with waste audits, and visually assess dumpsters and waste containers as needed.
7. Perform general office work, including filing, photocopying, and faxing.
8. Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

1. Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience that provides the employee with the functional work experiences needed to perform this work, or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
2. Excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal and collaborative problem solving skills and program development skills.
3. Working knowledge of desktop publishing software (Illustrator, Photoshop and/or Publisher) and presentation software (PowerPoint or Prezi).
4. Recycling office/sustainability office experience and knowledge of local and state environmental policies and issues.
5. Strong knowledge and skill with Google Chrome and Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), and willingness to learn new programs.
6. Computer literate.
7. Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension).
8. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
9. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with coworkers, visitors, building occupants and the entire campus community.
10. Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications

The Recycling Project Manager may operate assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and must possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
