This position is for Work Study eligible students to tutor elementary age children in elementary schools near campus. Tutors must have transportation and be able to tutor twice per week. Pay begins at $12 per hour and we provide training and materials. Tutors work 8 to 12 hours per week and provide one-on-one tutoring in reading and provide small group support in classrooms. America Reads tutors gain great experience and provide invaluable service to K-5 students in need of some extra help. Open to all majors. Flexible. America Reads tutors need to have 8 to 12 hours per week available to tutor students during school hours. Most tutors work twice per week. We work around student’s schedules.

Pay Rate 12.00
Minimum Experience/Education

Must be a currently enrolled UNC Charlotte student. Additionally, must have been awarded, and accepted, Federal Work Study funding as part of a financial aid package as administered by the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

We provide all training and materials. No experience necessary except that you have a desire to work with children and that you are conscientious and responsible. Tutors must have transportation to ge to school tutoring sites. The bus system is not effective in getting tutors to school sites.

Duties and Responsibilities

America Reads Tutors work twice a week to tutor struggling elementary age readers in nearby schools. You will provide guided reading and support. We provide training, tutoring materials that includes lesson plan templates, strategies and books. Tutors also work to support students in classrooms at their tutoring sites.

Other Work/Responsibilities

We provide initial tutor training which is required and periodic meetings with Lead Tutors. We also hold social events. Tutors are required to log their hours in Orgsync as well as Web Time Entry. We provide training on how to do this.
Good communication is essential! Tutors often work independently and must respond to emails.

None. We provide all training.
