8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Monday – Friday, nights and weekends as needed.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position works in collaboration with the Senior Director of Community Relations & University Events to build partnerships and be a resource to the community on behalf of the University, especially as it relates to community engaged scholarship . This position manages ongoing projects, creates new initiatives, develops strategic communications plans, and serves as a critical resource to Community Relations and Academic Affairs, especially as it relates to the Civic Action Plan and other key University partnerships.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Job Duties

• Responsible for creating and managing programs that connect the resources and programs of the University to the nonprofit community, with a primary focus on community-engaged partnerships with an academic or research focus.
• Leadership of/involvement in selected community engaged scholarship plans identified in the Civic Action Plan
• Engaging key faculty and research professionals in the community’s Leading on Opportunity efforts.
• Responsible for identifying opportunities to increase nonprofit board representation of UNC Charlotte senior leadership
• Developing an external board training program
• Managing the New Faculty & EHRA Staff community orientation and tour
• Developing/managing signature campus/community programs such as the creation of a community partner recognition program.
• This position will also work closely with the Senior Director of Community Relations & University Events on the overall management of the annual Chancellor’s Speaker Series and the Barnhardt Seminar on Ethics in the World of Business. These events involve the selection of and relationship with high profile outside speakers as well as an audience of key donors and senior leaders from the Charlotte region’s business, nonprofit and public sectors.
• Responsible for identifying, collecting and analyzing program and project metrics in support of UNC community engagement metrics and Campus Compact initiatives.
• Reviews other UNC campus, institutional peer campus, and other respected university metrics to identify trends and best practices.

Other Work Responsibilities

• Work with members of the University’s leadership, faculty, staff, alumni and student body in developing an understanding of the importance and value of community-engaged scholarship.
• Interact with community partners to understand needs and facilitate partnerships with UNC Charlotte resources.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners in the planning and establishment of projects including locations, venues, speakers, facilities, technology, equipment, budget and other related issues.
• Maintain and enhance professional relationships to increase credibility for building support and reaching consensus when explaining and interpreting program policies and procedures within assigned area(s).
• Identify trends, standards and best practices regarding community engaged scholarship initiatives in a university setting.
• Work with the Senior Director of Community Relations to develop proposals that align with the University’s objectives, to be presented to Academic Affairs/College Deans as well as Chancellor’s Cabinet as appropriate.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

• Four years demonstrated experience in community involvement work.
• Prefer experience working with or for nonprofits.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in writing/communications.
• Preferred experience in web site content management Higher Ed experience a plus Experience in all areas of communication.
• Experience working with Higher Ed a plus.
