Primary Purpose of Position

The Associate Director for Finance and Administration plays an integral part in the daily operation of the Popp Martin Student Union and Cone Unviersity Center at UNC Charlotte. He/she is responsible for the overall budget development, administration and analysis of the Student Union and Cone University Center fee funds. The Associate Director supervises the Business Services Coordinator, who is responsible for the daily business operations of the department. He/She administers retail leases for entities located in the Student Union and Cone University Center, as well as other contractual obligations, and serves as administrative laision to all retail operations. The Associate Director coordinates and manages human resource functions across the organization, including search processes, on-boarding, and the departmental evaluation process. He/She develops and administers a comprehensive assessment plan, based on concrete learning outcomes and sound student development principles, for the Student Union, Cone University Center and associated units, and serves as special projects coordinator as necessary.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related business area and two years of administration management or business management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Job Duties

A. Budget and Finance: budget development, administration and analysis of the Student Union and Cone University Center fee funds including monitoring operating and reserve funds, providing short- and long-term projections, and coordination of invoice processes.

B. Supervise the Business Services Coordinator, who is responsible for the daily business operations of the department

C. Retail Operations: administer retail leases for entities located in the Student Union and Cone University Center, as well as other contractual obligations, and administrative liaison to all retail operations

D. Human Resources: coordinate and manage human resource functions across the organization, including search processes, on-boarding, and the departmental evaluation process

E. Assessment: develop and administer a comprehensive assessment plan, based on concrete learning outcomes and sound student development principles, for the Student Union, Cone University Center and associated units

Other Work Responsibilities

F. Special Project Liaison: research new and innovative operating strategies and initiatives, recommending to Executive Director for integration into departmental operating procedures and strategic plan and formulate short- and long-term special projects, including coordination and collection of applicable data, research of appropriate procedures according to industry best practices, and consultation with outside experts as needed

G. General Responsibilities: serve as part of the Departmental Management Team, providing insight and recommendations in strategic planning, financial issues, student development, and departmental oversight; serve as designated backup staff for the Business Services Coordinator, in his/her absence, in making timely deposits and insuring daily financial issues are resolved; submit operational reports as directed; assist with and support Student Union and/or Cone University Center building operations when required; serve on Student Affairs and University-wide committees; other duties as assigned by the Executive Director in support of the mission of the Popp Martin Student Union and Cone University Center

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

• Master’s degree in business, finance or accounting.
• Three years of experience in budget management in a University setting.
• Previous experience with a Student Union operations within a university setting.
• Demonstrated experience with professional staff supervision.
• Experience with managing human resource processes.
• Knowledge of and experience in formal assessment i.e. concrete learning outcomes and sound student development principles.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills for a diverse group of customers, facilities, programs, and services.
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient computer and technology skills.
