Primary Purpose of Department

The Department of Business Information Systems and Operations Management (BISOM) offers undergraduate majors and minors in Management Information Systems, Operations and Supply Chain Management, and Business Analytics. BISOM faculty also teach courses for the M.B.A. concentrations in business analytics, information and technology management, and supply chain management, the interdisciplinary Masters program in Data Science and Business Analytics, the MS in Management, and the DBA programs.

Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Department is particularly interested in candidates whose academic backgrounds and professional qualifications span MIS and OM. Candidates must have a good understanding of the management of supply chain operations and the use of information systems in business. Further background in business analytics will be considered a plus. Prior teaching experience in MIS and/or OM is preferred.

The teaching load is an equivalent of four MIS/OM courses per semester. In addition to teaching, responsibilities for this position include university service and sufficient professional activities to maintain currency in the field. The candidate will be expected to participate and contribute to departmental, college, and University service activities.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

To be initially appointed to a position as a Lecturer, a candidate must present evidence of success in business, professional or academic practice, potential for or evidence of past effective teaching, and potential for a successful academic career. Individuals selected for this position will be expected to possess a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Operations Management (OM), Management Information Systems (MIS), or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited program and must meet professional and/or academic qualifications as defined in the Belk College Policy on Academic & Professional Qualifications.

The Department of Business Information Systems and Operations Management, one of six departments in the Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, invites applications for a full-time position as a Lecturer, beginning in the Fall 2018 semester. To be initially appointed to a position as a Lecturer, a candidate must present evidence of success in business, professional or academic practice, potential for or evidence of past effective teaching, and potential for a successful academic career. Individuals selected for this position will be expected to possess a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Operations Management (OM), Management Information Systems (MIS), or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited program and must meet professional and/or academic qualifications as defined in the Belk College Policy on Academic & Professional Qualifications.

This is a non-tenure track position with an initial two-year contract. The salary is competitive. Subsequent contracts will depend on performance, departmental needs, and the College’s budgetary situation.
