The Department of Religious Studies provides undergraduate and graduate instruction in the academic study of religion in a pluralistic, multicultural, and global context; conducts and publishes research related to religion; and provides service that enhances public understanding of issues related to religion. Religious studies faculty also contribute to the institutional work of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the University. Our mission is to foster critical understanding of the significance of religion in human societies and cultures.

Description of Work

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Hinduism to begin August 2018. This is a 3-year renewable appointment with a 4-4 teaching load each semester. Lecturer will teach both general education and department courses. Required qualifications include an M.A. or terminal degree in Religious Studies by the time of appointment, and at least three years of teaching experience (including online) in Religious Studies at the university level. All candidates must provide proof of effective teaching at the undergraduate level, including experience teaching survey courses in world religions and courses focused on Hinduism.

Candidates should show commitment to promoting diversity as a value in the department and college.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be instrumental in building interdisciplinary collaborations within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and across units in the University.
