The Department of Public Health Sciences is committed to excellence in research and teaching, to building a faculty and staff committed to preparing a diverse workforce, and to extending educational opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds. In addition to our CEPH-accredited BSPH, MPH and PhD degree programs in Public Health Sciences, we offer a BS in Health Systems Management, a MS in Health Informatics, a CAHME-accredited MHA program, and a PhD in Health Services Research. Description of Work

Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of her/his academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for an Associate Professor of Health Informatics and Analytics. This nine-month tenure track position is in the Department of Public Health Sciences. The faculty member will teach in the Professional Science Master’s program (PSM) in Health Informatics and Analytics (http://hi.uncc.edu/) and in the Department of Public Health Sciences, further Health Informatics and Analytics through participation in the Data Science Initiative (http://dsi.uncc.edu/) that brings academia and industry together to turn data into knowledge, and knowledge into insight, conduct an active program of research in health informatics and analytics, mentor graduate students, and contribute professional service to the institution, community, and discipline.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

The candidate must have a doctoral degree in health informatics; health services research; business, computer or information science; public health; epidemiology; biostatistics; health administration or related field. Candidates are expected to have experience and accomplishments, including teaching, scholarship, and extramural research support related to health informatics and analytics, appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
The extent to which the candidate can contribute the vision and mission of the department will be considered. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on population health informatics, business intelligence, or advanced healthcare data analysis that draw upon innovative and emerging tools such as machine learning and deep learning.
