The Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte is North Carolina’s urban research business school. Accredited by AACSB International, the Belk College of Business offers outstanding business education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, along with executive education.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Systems Developer and Project Manager manages all aspects of application development for the Belk College Technology Team. The Systems Developer and Project Manager is the lead programmer for the Belk College Technology Team. The Systems Developer and Project Manager directs software development, technology implementation, software redesign, and technology support for custom (e.g. Malibu and LaJolla) and purchased (e.g. Salesforce) software tools. The Systems Developer and Project Manager works to ensure team-level redundancy with respect to software-related expertise and engages team members and other key constituents around software development, implementation, and redesign.

Summary of Position Responsibilities

The Systems Developer and Project Manager reports to the Executive Director and is the team member with primary responsibility for the functionality of the College’s software tools. In this capacity, the Systems Developer and Project Manager works with other members of the Belk College Technology Team, UNC Charlotte’s Information Technology Services, outside vendors, Associate Deans, College staff, and College faculty who require technology services.
The Systems Developer and Project Manager’s principal responsibilities are to perform software project management and serve as the lead expert in the areas of software development and software redesign. In this role, the Systems Developer and Project Manager’s responsibilities include:
• Provide software project management expertise to develop new technology solutions and enhance existing technology solutions.
• Provide research, consulting and technology solutions to support administrative tasks, faculty research and College development projects.
• Serve as a resident expert on current and emerging technologies to support College administration, faculty research, and College development projects.
• Provide leadership and expertise through the planning, design, implementation, testing and deployment stages of the Belk College’s software development efforts.
• Work with clients to translate needs into innovative technology and/or software solutions and assist in executing programming requirements.
• Lead high level design efforts for application prototypes and solutions.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university with eighteen semester hours in programming and four years of experience in business application consulting or development. Experience in the field of work related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Masters degree in related field preferred.
• Experience with programming and system development with expertise in HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, MYSQL/SQL is required.
• Experience with other software and technologies is preferred including: application development frameworks, version control systems, container orchestrations and KVM hypervisers, Apache/NGINX, Redhat, Ubuntu, Debian, Salesforce and/or AWS.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented environment.
• Demonstrated ability to provide software project management expertise to develop new technology solutions and enhance existing technology solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, design, implement, test and deploy software.
• Demonstrated ability to lead high level design efforts for application prototypes and solutions.
