Monday to Friday: Generally 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM depending on Library schedule

Pay Rate $15.00 per hour
Minimum Experience/Education

Applicants must have completed 24 credits (or two full semesters of work) toward a Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Coursework in archival arrangement and description
  • Familiarity with any of the following: ArchivesSpace, JSON, ODBC, EAD, OpenRefine, XSLT, SQL, Python or other scripting language, or command-line interface
  • Aptitude for learning new technologies
Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Archivist for Collection Management and Software Developer, the fellow will work with the UNC Charlotte Special Collections and University Archives’ collection management system (ArchivesSpace) to manipulate data for descriptive and analytical purposes.

The fellow’s work will have several different components, but the primary tasks will be to: utilize the ArchivesSpace API and programming to automate the cleanup and transformation of legacy collection records; and create custom reports to gather statistics and analytics likely by utilizing Open Database Connectivity and MySQL.

The fellow will work closely with his/her supervisors, as well as the University Archivist, to identify concerns and appropriate software, but will work independently on assigned projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Identify descriptive data requiring cleanup or transformation by working with necessary stakeholders
  • Automate transformations using selected script language
  • Identify statistical and analytical information needed for library reporting needs
  • Use necessary tools to generate reports with data from ArchivesSpace
  • Draft procedures to allow the replication of statistical and analytical reports at a later date

*Full-time temporary positions do not offer leave accrual (paid time off), or retirement entitlement (state service) benefits.
