Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The selected applicant is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of electron microscopy (EM) and materials science; advise undergraduate and graduate students; develop a strong research program; and provide professional service, particularly on leading the operation and the user program of the scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope and their peripheral facilities within the MEES department.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

(1) a Ph.D. degree in one of the following areas: Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering as of the offer date of employment; (2) solid theoretical and practical understanding and skills in the various aspects of EM, especially Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM); (3) at least three years of operation and maintenance experience in TEM and sample preparation, and (4) strong oral and written communication skills.
