Extended Academic Programs (ExAP) is a unit within the division of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Associate Provost for Metropolitan Studies and Extended Academic Programs. ExAP is comprised of the Continuing Education, Distance Education, and Summer School units. In the area of distance education programs and courses, ExAP works in collaboration with academic departments to plan and administer undergraduate and graduate course work at off campus sites and online via the Internet, and also organizes and administers courses offered by the University during the summer terms. While distance education activities are funded by state appropriations, on campus summer courses are self-funded through the generation of program registration fees/tuition. Continuing Education conducts non-credit instructional programs for adults, most of which offer participants formal continuing education units (CEUs) or meet the continuing education requirements of various state, national, and profession-specific Boards. The Office offers a variety of camps and other non-credit activities for children and youth. It is available to provide registration services for other units on campus offering non-credit programs; it is designated to act on behalf of the University to award CEUs to non-credit programs offered by other units on-campus.

Primary Purpose of Position

This is technical and analytical work in developing, designing, and/or supporting applications for the business, research, and/or instructional functions of clients. Works with the Director of Operations to map new business processes and design workflows to accomplish both internal business processes and external customer-facing solutions. Employee participates in the development of solutions using programming expertise for day to day problems to include maintenance, modification or development of complex inter related applications/solutions. Responsible for the over site and management of the enrollment management system for non-credit student services.

Summary of Position Responsibilities

Serves as the key technical knowledge resource for the unit. Responsible for programming complex automation workflows in platforms critical for course operations and student communications such as Destiny One and Google Apps Script.

Maintains a thorough understanding of technical issues.

Regularly collaborates with the Center for Teaching and Learning, ITS, and our external partner, Destiny Solutions to ensure success on server administration, software upgrades, LMS interface and identity management.

Uses technical knowledge to predict and prevent potential technical issues impacting student access to online course materials, e-commerce for all continuing education courses, and the self-service electronic portal for students to access their enrollment history, certificates, and payment history.

Works with vendors on the development, design, implementation and maintenance of software to include but not limited to DestinyOne, SurveyShare, iNet Clear Reports, and online course delivery software including Canvas.

Research technological solutions to meet the needs of online course delivery.

Supports unit staff in training and implementation of new technology.

Provides guidance to instructors and participants on software and hardware related to curriculum and delivery.

Maintain and support equipment used for instructional purposes.

Interface with main campus and Classroom Support when utilizing shared computer labs.

Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

HTML, CSS, Javascript, Java, Powershell
Windows Server Administration
Apache, IIS or other web server technologies

3-5 years of interpreting business needs and translating them into business and functional requirements preferably in a higher education environment. Coding Certification. Business Process Management Certification.
