Primary Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to hire, train, and supervise the overall operations of the roaming point of service team. This position is in charge of scheduling the roaming service team to staff the equipment desk and coordinating all roaming activities of the team. In addition, this position is responsible for communicating with other library departments regarding the roaming service to ensure the service is being optimally utilized by all. This position is also scheduled to work on the library’s main service desk in rotation with other staff. This position will maintain membership on library committees to include Marketing, Outreach, and others as deemed relevant to the position.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university; or high school and four years of library experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Duties

Hires, trains, schedules, evaluates and approves time for student roaming point of service team.

Work a regular schedule at the circulation desk.

Creates spreadsheets and other files to compile statistical data tracking for library roaming services.

Develops procedures for providing roaming services with portable electronic devices.

Promotes positive public service attitudes and skills through example, coaching and follow up with Ask Atkins roaming services team.

Provides instruction to patrons as needed in relevant aspects of Library service.

1) Graduation from a four-year college or university.

2) Two years of experience working at a circulation desk in a library.

3) Experience with and enthusiasm for working with emerging technologies.

4) Experience providing information-related customer service in an academic library setting.

5) Experience working with library software systems, online catalogs and databases.

6) Comfort and flexibility working with changing job responsibilities.

7) Experience supervising, training and scheduling student employees in a library setting.

8) Familiarity with roaming point of service assistance in libraries.

9) Effective oral and written communication skills.
